The Sarasota Family YMCA has selected a YMCA executive from Georgia as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Kurt Stringfellow, President/CEO of the YMCA of Georgia’s Piedmont, will take over the Sarasota Y on November 1, 2012. Stringfellow, who has had a YMCA career spanning over twenty-five years, was chosen through a nationwide search.
“We are very excited to be able to make this announcement and look forward to Kurt’s leadership”, said Ed Landis, Chairman of the Sarasota YMCA Board of Directors. “ Kurt has a proven track record of leadership, fiscal prowess and a true commitment to the Y’s mission and core values. He will be a great addition to our Y and also to the Sarasota community at large.”
Stringfellow, who is a graduate of the University of Georgia, is committed to changing people’s lives and feels that through his work with the YMCA he is able to do just that. “The Sarasota Y is truly making a difference in the community and the lives of so many individuals. It is an honor to be able to serve the Sarasota community on so many levels from children in Foster Care to teens in our Y-Achievers programs to seniors who look to the Y for both exercise and friendships.”
Kurt and his wife, Charlotte, fell in love with Sarasota on their first visit here. “The climate is fabulous and the people here have a real sense of community. We are really looking forward to meeting people and getting out and learning more about Sarasota. Our son, who is 9 years of age, is also excited to be here and very interested in joining the YMCA Sharks Swim team”.
