The Sarasota Y's Triad alternative programs have one campus in Sarasota and the other in Venice. They are second chance schools for students who have committed an expellable offense or have been referred for behaviors that prevent them from learning in the traditional school environment.
Triad utilizes a behavior modification program. They have low student to staff ratios, modified curricula, adventure-based learning and a "whole-student" approach to teaching.
The school's first priority is addressing student behavior. Students receive counseling and create personal action plans on how they will work to reenter their former school, vocation training, college or the workforce.
The School Board of Sarasota assigns students to the Triad programs based on one or more of the following criteria:
-
Commission of an expellable offense within the Sarasota County School system
-
Court involvement with a recommendation for alternative school placement
-
Truancy, habitual disruption and/or behaviors that interfere with learning in the traditional school environment.
